Christina to hit the big screen
|
Saucy pop minx Christina Aguilera is getting ready to make her acting debut, according to film industry bible Variety. In a role that will astonish anyone who’s ever seen one of her videos, Xtina will star as a raunchy dancer in a musical entitled Burlesque. Gosh – where do they get their ideas from?
In the film, the Drrrty girl – who’s no stranger to the odd revealing outfit – will play “an ambitious smalltown girl with a big voice who finds love, family and success in a Los Angeles neo-burlesque club”. It’s going to be a bit like Cabaret, apparently, but with not so many Nazis.
The part was written especially for Christina, who took a break from the music biz after giving birth to her son Max last February. The script has been co-written by Susannah Grant, the writer behind Erin Brockovich, so you can bet your glittery basque there’ll be plenty of feisty feminine spirit on display, along with everything else.
Although this will be Christina’s first starring role on camera, she did previously provide the voice for a small part in the animated movie Shark’s Tale.
The company producing the film, Screen Gems, seems to specialise at putting pop stars in the spotlight. It’s currently raking in the bucks from Obsessed, a Fatal Attraction-tastic thriller in which Beyoncé Knowles goes a bit Sasha Fierce when a nasty stalker (Ali Larter) tries to get her claws into her fella (Idris Elba, from The Wire).
